Greetings!

After a productive week, we are headed toward the closing of our novel, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. This week, we will be exploring concepts closer to the end of the book.

Last Week

We began the week by analyzing Chapters 13-21 of Treasure Island. Our protagonist, Jim, ventured onto the island where treasure is rumored to be buried and engaged in violent confrontations with Long John and his men. Continuing, I shared what I was reading and two explorations of writing craft: anaphora and threshold concepts. Moreover, we looked at loss as metaphor in Hemingway’s “Three Day Blow” and examined a book I have yet to read, World War Z. Lastly, we explored the conventions of ghost stories found in Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.

Next Week

Looking ahead, there’s much to read and study!

Tuesday: Writing Craft, Internal and External Conflicts
Wednesday: Background Knowledge, Stockades
