Much of my family has contributed to my literary journey–and my literacy journey as well. As a child, my mom gave me suggestions on short stories and authors (and this helped guide me toward my taste in fiction).
And, in my teens, my brothers and I shared with each other the stories and books that inspired us (Beowulf, Nightshift, The Hobbit, and so on). Later, in my early 20s, my older brother taught me to write in AP style and how to craft a newspaper article.
A positive thing my family members did was help me become the writer I am today; and I will forever be grateful for that effort.
