It has been an exciting week on the blog as we started a new novel study and examined some aspects of writing that can help us learn a little more about the craft.
I also took another sojourn to the North, so I had to put a few posts on the backburner. Nevertheless, I had a few great book finds and stopped at a cool horror-themed bookstore, where I was startled by a falling spider! Of course, it was fake, and my family thought it was very, very funny.
Last Week
We began the week by analyzing chapters 1-5 of Ray Bradbury’s “The Halloween Tree.” We learned about our cast of characters and set off with them on their journey to meet MoundShroud at his house next to the Halloween tree itself.
Moreover, we explored the history of the jack-o’-lantern and its connection to folklore. The history can be dense and often varies depending on how deep one wants to delve into the historical thicket. Additionally, I tried a new writing prompt post to get the creative juices flowing, as most of us are both readers AND writers.
Next, we delved into the concept of “atmosphere” in writing, how it differs from mood, and how to incorporate it into your own writing. Lastly, I shared my trip up North and the books I brought with me, including a book about werewolves. There is nothing better than sitting under the stars and moon and reading about creepy folklore.
