Reflections: July 16, 2023

Greetings, and happy Sunday!

We have a little bit to talk about concerning last week’s posts and what we are looking ahead to read and accomplish next week!

Last week

Last week we analyzed the first three parts to Mark Twainโ€™s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurโ€™s Court. So far, we are just getting our bearings straight as far as the characters and the setting; and, with our hero bonked on the head and now held captive as a knight’s property, we are looking to see just where he ends up.

As well, we also learned about a book on my shelf that I have yet to read, which is Mary Shelley’s The Last Man. The book’s apocalyptic setting almost certainly relates to A Connecticut Yankee through the fantastical elements being thrown our way.

Next week

For this coming week, we are going to analyze the first official chapter of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurโ€™s Court by Mark Twain. As it is still early in the book, we are going to work on getting to know the main character and his plight through accusations and hysteria.

Additionally, we are going to look at a Word of the Week, which will relate to the text through its use of social class; ideally, I would like to provide a word that will also bridge some historical context for the era (of which Twain had no real interest). Lastly, I am going to pluck another book off my shelf I haven’t read and provide an outline.

Enjoy your Sunday, and I hope you join us on the blog this week!
