Greetings!
Today we are looking at what we learned last week and what is in store for next week!
Last Week
Last week, we read Chapters V – VIII of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain. We learned about Hank Morgan’s adventures in the dungeons of Camelot. We also learned that he could use his knowledge of an eclipse to sway the court itself to divert his own death by burning. Which, luckily, he does! Afterward, Hank has Merlin imprisoned and blows up the wizard’s tower to prove his supremacy. Lastly, he takes on the new moniker “The Boss” to set himself a part from the King and Queen so that everybody in the kingdom knows exactly who he is when he comes around.
Continuing with last week’s material, we learned about verb tenses for our Writing Craft post. Likewise, our Word of the Week was “Merlin” and so we delved into the question: what makes a name?
Moreover, we thought about a quote from the film Excalibur for our Literary Quotes, and, in lieu of the Literature in film I was going to explore, I went back and examined Weird Fiction in True Detective, season one. Finally, we concluded the week by summarizing and outlining Silas Marner by Geroge Eliot.
Next week
Next week we are going to analyze chapters IX – XIII in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. We are going to learn about Hank’s disagreement with a knight, his work in the kingdom to civilize society, a grand quest he must partake in, and a truly evil queen who cares little for her subordinates.
We will also continue looking at how to use verbs and fix verb tenses to avoid inappropriate shifts for our Writing Craft post. Furthermore, for our Literary Quotes post, Aesop will deliver us a fair piece of wisdom, and I will pluck another book from my shelf to analyze for the Book List. For next Saturday, I have a few different posts in the draft mode, so I will post whichever one gets done first: folklore or Literature in Film. As it is so close to fall now, I am hoping to write about vampires and other such ghouls, and I still have “magical” film in mind that would relate to our reading of Twain’s book.
Feel free to leave a comment or share a post this week if you find some interesting tidbits! Have a great week, and I hope to see you on the blog!
