Last week, this week: Oct. 18th – Oct. 24th

Greetings!

Here’s our usual reflection on last week’s material and our look ahead to new things we will discuss and learn! I am absolutely going to be busy this week with final grades due for this quarter on Tuesday (along with a writing workshop Tuesday night), music practice on Wednesday, and parent-teacher conferences on Thursday.

While I am looking forward to the coming week, it’s definitely turning out to be a hectic one!

Last week

This past week we looked at the enduring legacy of Harlan Ellison’s “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream,” an Edgar Allan Poe poem, “The Haunted Palace,” which is also closely relate to “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and we also examined Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula (1992).

As it turns out, if I plan on committing to three things then that means I can get three things done in a week, which is the opposite of planning seven things and getting nothing done! So, this seems to be working out for now!

This week

For the upcoming week, we are going with a similar approach:

Monday: To start our week off, we are going to look at and review a book that I’ve previewed a little on this blog. It’s Halloween-themed, so I think it will fit right in with the theme of horror this month.

Tuesday: TBD

Wednesday: We are going to look at how adjectives and nouns can dress up our sentences, and what we should avoid when using them (don’t worry, I’m guilty of some of the sins of modifiers).

Thursday: TBD

Friday: We are going to analyze a Gothic/Horror poem and how it conveys symbolism and mood.

Saturday: TBD

Sunday: Weekly wrap-up and a look ahead.

It’s going to be a busy week on the blog (and in my life), so I do hope you stop by for a visit if only to check up on me and see if I am still breathing!
